about this book
According to Petro Yefymenko, his collection of the Ukrainian spells was the first publication of spells separately from other forms of Ukrainian folklore. His book “A Collection of Ukrainian Spells” was first published in 1875. Our edition is the collection’s first English publication.
Whether you want your lover to fall deeply in love with you; or you wish to protect yourself from the evil eye; or for your enemy to fail; or to get rid of annoying toothache, or for your bees to bring plenty of honey – you will find the spell you need in the book. There are over 220 spells in the book.
A Collection of Ukrainian Spells is the third book in the Ukrainian Scholar Library series. It will be followed by publications on Ukrainian demonology, philosophy, music, and others.
The book includes an extensive bibliography, notes, and indexes, as well as black-and-white illustrations. Andriy Temchenko (Bohdan Khmelnytsjyi National University of Cherkasy, Ukraine) wrote the foreword and some commentaries.
About the Series: Sova Books’ Ukrainian Scholar Library offers works written by Ukrainian intellectuals on various subjects. History, folk music and lore, literary studies, religion or politics, these subjects, and hopefully more with time will be covered by the series. The works span several centuries and most have Ukraine as their main or starting point of discussion. Whether you are a scholar or not, you will find answers in your quest for knowledge in these books.
