about this book
According to Petro Yefymenko, his collection of Ukrainian spells was the first publication of spells separately from other forms of Ukrainian folklore. His book “A Collection of Ukrainian Spells” was first published in 1875. Our edition is the collection’s first English publication.
Whether you want someone to fall deeply in love with you; or you wish to protect yourself from the evil eye; or wish for your enemy to fail; or wish to get rid of annoying toothache, or wish for your bees to bring plenty of honey – you will find the spell you need in this book. It contains over 220 spells.
A Collection of Ukrainian Spells is the second book in the Ukrainian Scholar Library series. It will be followed by publications on Ukrainian demonology, philosophy, music, and others.
The book includes an extensive bibliography, notes, and indexes, as well as black-and-white illustrations. Andriy Temchenko (Bohdan Khmelnytsjyi National University of Cherkasy, Ukraine) wrote the foreword and some commentaries.
