Promising Ukrainian Students Excel at Sova Books Translation Workshop

On Tuesday (16.04.2024), the team at Sova Books met with some of the most promising young students from Ukraine. These students study foreign languages at Volodymyr Vynnychenko Central Ukrainian State University in Kropyvnytskyi. They attended a workshop led by one of our translators, Svitlana Yakovenko. The workshop, titled “Born to Translate (Industry Secrets: Practical Advice for Budding Translators)”, provided insights into the translation industry.

These meetings are valuable for everyone involved. We’re optimistic that the students gained a lot from the workshop, and we certainly did too. One thing is clear: Ukraine’s future looks bright, thanks to its resilient youth. Despite facing severe challenges such as Russian shelling, daily sirens, blackouts, and other harsh realities of war, these students remain dedicated to their education and dreams. Consequently, they are gearing up to become the future generation of teachers, doctors, judges, and government leaders.

It’s truly inspiring to meet their educators. The teachers, lecturers, and tutors of the Department of Translation, General and Applied Linguistics (Faculty of Ukrainian Philology, Foreign Languages and Social Communications) have committed to nurturing these future leaders. Even during the war, they stayed at their posts, doing what was most needed. Thanks to the dedication of its teaching staff, the Vynnychenko University, though in the modest town of Kropyvnytskyi, boasts one of the best Foreign Language Departments in the country. This university has been recognised for its excellence in language education for decades.

We look forward to welcoming one of these talented students to our Sova Books translator team in the future.
